Cidelia (Avila) Montoya went home to be with our Lord on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at her home in Albuquerque surrounded by her family. “Della” was born on June 7, 1927 in Taos, New Mexico where she was raised and lived. Della married Espil in July 1951 and they raised four children through adulthood. In 1995, Della moved to Albuquerque with her husband and oldest daughter Christina to be closer to her daughters.
Della was very active in the choir at Our Lady of Guadalupe church in Taos and was an avid bowler. She and Espil loved to dance and were very active in the Fraternal Order of Eagles club.
Della was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Agnes Avila, her brothers Joe and Pete Avila, her husband, Espil, and oldest daughter Christina. She is survived by her children Ted Montoya (Martha), Elaine Herrera (Fred), Veronica Hice, her niece Lorreta Robb (Dan), grandchildren Leslie, Jenna, Toby, Melissa, Randy, Lacey, Amanda, and great grandchildren Gabe, Juliette, Xavi, Alianna, Autumn, Elias, and Harper, sisters Mary Alice Winter, Ramona Anglada, and numerous relatives.
A Rosary will be held Sunday, September 24 at 6:00PM at Daniels Funeral Home, 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Risen Savior Catholic Church, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. at 10:00 AM, followed by a reception at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 3301 Mountain Road NW in Albuquerque. The interment will be Tuesday morning at 9:45 at the Veterans National Cemetery in Santa Fe.
