Martha Joye Amedeo

April 3, 1929 — May 21, 2016

Amedeo, Martha Joye
Age 87, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2016. Born April 3rd, 1929, in Clovis New Mexico, she was named Martha Joye Whitener. Her middle name was very apt, she was a joy. She had auburn hair and loved to perform. Her parents were Jeremiah Whitener (1901-1960) and Beatrice Eve Colvin (1910-2012)  and she had one brother named Jerry Don (1932-1991). The men in her family were proud Santa Fe Railroaders. She went to college at Redlands in California, graduating with a BA in Speech and Drama, and went on to earn a Master’s Degree at Eastern New Mexico in Portales. She married a handsome Italian, Frank P. Amedeo on June 4th, 1952. Together they have two daughters, Lisa E. Healey (the dancer) and the academic (Stephanie Rose Amedeo Marquez).  Martha's five grandchildren are: Jessica Amedeo Johnson (MA Speech Therapy), Francesco Amedeo (AA Culinary Arts), Daniel J. Healey (BS Software Engineering), Ariel Healey (AA Culinary Arts), and Alexis Healey Orfaly (BS Biology Pre-Med). There are six great-grandchildren, first: Ashley Healey (age 15), second, Teigan Johnson (age 12), Alana Healey (age 11), and Talia Johnson (age 10), Aidan Healey (age 8) and Vincent Healey (almost 2). Her sons-in-law Dan Healey and Fred Marquez, her granddaughter in law Julie Healey, and her grandson-in-law Bradley Johnson. We will all miss her style, her music, and especially her dramatic personality. Rest in Peace, we are glad you are home again, together with your husband at last.
