Martha Sue Kurts, age 81, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2016 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was born in Pensacola, FL on September 20, 1934, to Lewe John and Elizabeth Frances (Dorr) Pierson.
Martha attended Hunington College in Montgomery, Alabama where she obtained her bachelor's degree in biology and minor in history and chemistry. She married Major George T. Kurts Jr. (USAF), of Jackson, MS, on August 27, 1955 in Pensacola, Florida. She served as a Customer Service Representative at Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Mississippi for 13 years. Martha loved to play bridge and dominoes. She was a member of Alta Woods United Methodist Church in Jackson Mississippi, and a member of the 60+ Group.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 38 years, Major George T. Kurts Jr., and sister, Harriet Elizabeth Holifield.
Martha is survived by her daughters, Martha Elizabeth Roberts (Kenny) and Sharon Lee Cook (Mark); grandsons, William Cook, Michael Cook, and Thomas W. Cook; granddaughters, Sarah Elizabeth Rodriguez, Anna K. Cook, Laura G. Cook, and Emma F. Cook. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
There will be a visitation on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, MS. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 in the funeral home chapel with a visitation one hour prior. A private interment will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park, 6000 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, MS.
