Former resident of Laurel, Maryland passed away on September 7, 2017 in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Born in Washington, DC, he will be remembered for his commitment to God, family and a passion for service to others. Beloved husband, father, brother, nephew, and a very special friend to many people. Married to Pamela Scalco for 25 years and loving father to Lindsay Baker of Spokane, WA.
He was the fourth of nine children born to the late Vincent and Betty Ann Scalco. Roy graduated from DeMatha Catholic High School in 1977 where he continued serving the DeMatha family by helping with sporting events and was an active member of the Senior boosters. Roy was a cherished member of the Knights of Columbus and Sons of Italy in Laurel.
He was also active in his beloved church, St. Mary’s of the Mills in Laurel until he, his wife and daughter moved to Rio Rancho, New Mexico in 2006. Roy enjoyed life in New Mexico where he was a member of a hot air balloon crew, enjoyed the beautiful outdoors and made friends wherever he went. He found a job he loved at the local arena and worked at several other event locations in and around Albuquerque.
Roy is survived by his wife, Pamela, daughter Lindsay and son-in-law Kevin Baker; brothers John (Cheryl), Steve (Nancy), Bobby (Judy), and Michael; sisters Teresa (Chris) and Dora (Chisa) along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Roy is predeceased by his brothers Joe and Nicky.
On Friday, September 15 at 3 o’clock in the afternoon, a memorial service will be held at the Southern Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral home located at 2400 Southern Boulevard, Rio Rancho, NM. Repass at his family home to follow.
On Sunday, October 1 at 2:30 in the afternoon, funeral services will be held at St. Mary’s of the Mills Catholic Church, 114 St. Mary’s Place, Laurel, Maryland with a repass in the Breen Room.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Roy Scalco to the Brendan and Maureen Looney Scholarship Fund at DeMatha Catholic High School, 4313 Madison Street, Hyattsville, MD 20785.
