Vincenta "Vicki" Magure

April 5, 1932 — September 12, 2017

Vincenta “Vicki” Ornelas Magure died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, in Albuquerque, NM.  She was 85.
Vicki is survived by her son, Harry A Magure Jr, her daughter Rosemary Magure, son in law Matthew K Johnson, grandson Dominic K Johnson, from Albuquerque; nieces Delores Burnside of Washington, Rosemary Gonzales (Jessie) of Kansas City, MO, Dee Dee La Rue (Dalton) of Nevada; Kimm Vlahos of California; nephews Brian Ornelas (Tammy) of Oklahoma, Michael Ornelas (Vanessa) of Texas, Jay Magure (Sherrill) of Utah, Mark Vlahos of California ; Sister in laws Marilyn Ornelas of Kansas, Para Vlahos (Bill) of California and Dorothy Magure of Utah
She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry A Magure, of San Francisco, California, her brother, Victor Ornelas, of Garden City, KS and her sister, Julie Ramirez, of Kansas City, MO.
Vicki was born on April 5, 1932 in Topeka, KS, the youngest of 12 children to parents Felix and Poinciana Ornelas. It was always Vicki's' goal to go to college, a goal that she reached.  She graduated from the Mount St Scholastic Academy, at the time a private catholic college, in Kansas with a degree in nursing and in 1956 she moved to San Francisco, CA, where she worked as a registered nurse in the surgical unit. In1959, she met and married her husband of 26 years, Harry A. Magure, Sr.  They lived in California for many years, where both her son and daughter were born.    Afterward they moved to Reno, NV and Presque Isle, ME, before settling down in Albuquerque in 1979.
Vicki was a devout catholic, having been a member of Risen Savior Catholic Church.  The pride of her life were her children Harry and Rosemary, but most especially her grandson Dominic.  She also loved her adopted grandchildren whom she loved babysitting, Ryan Reinhart and Gavin Metzger.
She had a deep fondness for her son in law, Matthew, who always maintained that she could make “one mean martini”. Her dog Ella was always by her side, and it is safe to say she misses her Mama dearly. Vicki also played a role of “little mama” to her daughter's friends, who treated her as their own mama.  She was always on hand to drive her son and his friends around before they could drive on their own, often cruising main street while living in Reno.
Vicki worked many years as a dedicated nurse and care taker, having worked in this field for over 57 years.  After her husband died she worked multiple jobs to provide for her children.  During all of this she never lost her sense of humor, joy, love and her sass.  She instilled a strong work ethic in her children, although they didn't inherit her trait of “if you are not at work 20 minutes before your scheduled shift you are late.”  After she retired officially, she enjoyed watching her grandson play YAFL football, often taking him to practice and cheering him on with the other parents during the games.  Vicki was feisty to the end, but during her last conversation with her son she told him “everything will be OK.”  Harry was an invaluable, unselfish caretaker to his Mama.
She will be missed everyday by those who loved her. We hope you will join us in celebrating her life.
