Vivian E. Pearson

April 10, 1948 — September 20, 2017

Vivian E. Pearson, affectionately known to her family as “Grammy,” was born April 10th 1948 in Chicago, Illinois. She passed away September 20th 2017 at her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Vivian graduated from Glenbard East High School in 1966. After graduation she worked various jobs ranging from hotel clerk, nursery care attendant, and in retail. The wild beauty of New Mexico reverberated deeply in her own wild spirit when she first moved there in 1971. After a brief return to Illinois, she returned to the Land of Enchantment in 1973 and chose to call it home for the rest of her life. She lived and worked in Taos, Santa Fe, and Albuquerque over the next 8 years as a waitress, bartender, and secretary. From 1981 to 1986 she worked for Holmes & Narver as an administrative assistant, which launched the trajectory of her career when she first visited Los Alamos as a consultant in 1984. In 1986, she moved up “on the hill” and began working for the Los Alamos National Laboratory as an administrative staff member. She held a wide variety of administrative roles including secretarial pool, legal assistant, program administrator, project management/systems analyst, and designated training generalist. Vivian retired in 2006 after 20 years of service. In 2009, she moved to Albuquerque, NM where she spent her remaining days spoiling her grandson rotten.

Vivian was devoted to her family, especially to her beloved grandson Wesley. She was an unfailingly kind and loyal friend. Vivian truly loved animals, dedicating herself to her numerous “fur babies” over the years, often saying, “There’s going to be a stampede when I cross that Rainbow Bridge in the sky.” She gave generously to a number of non-profit organizations aimed at bettering the lives of animals.

She was a lover of words and music. She maintained a childlike sense of wonder about the world throughout her life and found contentment in enjoying the simple things, particularly her morning cup of coffee. Vivian was frugal and wise knowing that although money was important to live well, it was ultimately not the key to happiness. All those who knew Vivian recognized her inner strength and were inspired by her ability to navigate life’s peaks and valleys with courage and true grit. Vivian will forever be treasured by her family and friends, whose lives were changed for the better by her unconquerable spirit. She will be dearly missed.

Vivian is preceded in death by her mother Elaine Reinhardt, her father John Miles, and her brother Greg Miles. She is survived by her daughter Amanda Pearson, grandson Wesley Pearson-Longer, and brother Brian Miles. A small private service will be held at a future date. Donations may be sent in memoriam to her preferred charity, the Heart & Soul Animal Sanctuary. www.animal-sanctuary.org/how-to-help
