Susan Joan (Woodcock) Zurasky, 71, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Mary Woodcock, her husband Larry, and her brother Joe. She is survived by her sister, Ginger (husband: James), her children: Dean (wife: Monica), Sherry (husband: Aldo), Shawnna (fiancé: Patrick), and stepdaughter LeeAnn. She is also survived by nine grandchildren (Mariah, Justin, Nathan, Melyssa, Julia, Tyler, Ashley, Emily, and Shalynn), as well as two great grandchildren (Ezekiel and Paige), along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was born in Roswell, NM and graduated from Highland High School in Albuquerque, NM. After high school, she attended Texas Christian University (GO HORNED FROGS!) and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. After teaching for many years in California and New Mexico, her career path changed, and she became a merchandise manager with JC Penney Department Stores. Her job then led her to Durango, CO and Santa Fe, NM, where she retired in 1994. Her retirement didn’t last long. She soon rejoined the work force as the ticket manager at the University of New Mexico’s Popejoy Hall, and there came to enjoy the arts while working directly with members of her community. After retiring a second time, she enjoyed traveling extensively. She visited 48 out of the 50 United States and traveled internationally to Belize; Roatan, Honduras; Cozumel, Mexico; and Castaway Island, Nassau, the Bahamas. Anyone who has ever met Susan knows her favorite sport was football. She had many fantasy football teams and joined in on football pools with her family on Sundays. Besides football, she also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family, especially her grand-dog (Pixie). Family always came first for Susan. A memorial will be held at Daniels Funeral Home (7601 Wyoming Boulevard NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109) on August 4, 2017 at 1:00 pm. A reception will follow at Grace Church (6901 San Antonio Drive NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109), starting at 2:30 pm. In honor of Susan (and her enduring love for the TCU Horned Frogs), we ask that attendees please wear purple to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Watermelon Mountain Ranch wmranch.org.
