Adelaida “Ida” Montoya, age 88, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025, in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. She was born on July 12, 1937, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, to Antonio and Pearl Montoya.

Ida was a proud graduate of El Rito School and dedicated over 25 years of service to the State of New Mexico, working for the Department of Health & Environment.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents and her son, Jose Frank Campos.

Ida is survived by her loving daughter, Patricia Carbajal of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; nephews Johnny and Jerry Segura of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and niece Martha Segura of Santa Fe, New Mexico. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Tarah Sierra and husband Justin Eavenson, and great-grandchildren Greyson and Parker Eavenson. Her faithful pets, Chiquita and Teddy, were always by her side.

A woman of deep faith, Ida was a devoted member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and was active in the Rosemary Makers Guild. She was generous in spirit and gave selflessly to numerous charitable causes, including food banks, hospitals, churches, and cancer research organizations.

Ida had a passion for the arts—especially painting and sewing. She was remarkably talented and found joy in creating beautiful things for those she loved. Her creativity, strength, and vibrant personality touched the lives of many. She was known for her kindness, strong will, and unwavering generosity. Her friendships were lifelong, and she would be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Though we mourn her passing, we take comfort in knowing she is no longer in pain.

Her favorite quote was:

“Good, better, best. Never let it rest, until your good is better and your better is best.”
