Agnes Chavez

July 14, 1933 — December 6, 2021

Our dear and precious mom, Agnes Chavez, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, peacefully in her home, on Monday, December 6, 2021 at the age of 88. A lifelong resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, our mom is preceded in death by her husband and our dad, Peter Chavez of whom she was married for 43 years before his passing. Agnes is survived by her beloved children Pete (Monica) Chavez, Don (Melinda) Chavez, Shirley (Paige Lavilla) Sandoval, Tessie (Don) Medina, Michael (Debra) Chavez, Angela (Chris) Scott and Elena Chavez as well as her twenty-six grandchildren, thirty-nine great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and her precious, most loved furry companion, Penny.

Our mom was a woman of great faith, tremendous courage and had a servant’s heart. She loved to attend church and serve others in any way she could. Her courage was evident when she was able to overcome cancer on two different occasions.  Her heart to serve others was displayed as she would spend hour upon hour, over the years, volunteering and ministering at local homeless shelters such as Joy Junction, Noon Day, and Albuquerque Rescue Mission.  She also loved participating in ministry work at the churches she attended over the years, whether it was homeless meal ministry at Restoration Ministries Church, the jail and hospitality ministries at Victory Outreach or serving as a greeter at her current home church, Sagebrush Church. Most importantly, our mom loved her children and grandchildren dearly and was always finding ways to bless and serve them. Her generous and giving heart will always be remembered as her most endearing quality. We love you mom with all of our hearts, and we will cherish every memory and blessing that you have given us over the years.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service, in honor and remembrance of our mom, will be held on Friday December 17th, 2021 at 1:00PM at Sagebrush Church, Northwest Albuquerque Riverside campus. Because of the current situation with COVID-19, we respectfully ask that masks be worn by those that are able to attend, during the entirety of the service.

Because our mom had such a love for animals, especially her beloved Penny, we ask that in lieu of flowers donations be made in her honor to Watermelon Mountain Ranch Animal Shelter.
