Obituary

Our beloved mother and sister, Agnes Vigil, entered eternal life with the Lord on January 11, 2026, at her home in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.

Agnes was born on May 4, 1936, in Pecos, New Mexico, to Phillip and Lucy Sedillo. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Robert R. Vigil.

She is lovingly survived by her sons: Robert S. Vigil of Albuquerque; Henry Vigil and his wife Frankie Ann of Las Vegas, New Mexico; Vincent de Paul Vigil and his fiancée Ann Mancuso of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Jude Vigil and his wife Camille of Rio Rancho; and Matthew Vigil and Michael Ulibarri, both of Rio Rancho. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Steven Vigil, Stephanie Vigil, Katarina Vigil, Amanda Vigil, and Craig T. Garcia.

Agnes is further survived by her sister, Judy Chavez, and her husband Sonny, of Rio Rancho; her brother, Arthur Sedillo, of Phoenix, Arizona; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Agnes attended Our Lady of Sorrows Elementary School and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School, both in Las Vegas, New Mexico. She continued her education at Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico, where she earned both a Bachelor of Arts and a master’s degree in education. Agnes dedicated many years of service to Santa Fe Public Schools, where she was a respected teacher and mentor before retiring.

Cremation has taken place.

A Rosary will be recited at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, located at 1502 Sara Road, Rio Rancho, New Mexico, at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m., also at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.

Burial will take place on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the Veterans’ National Cemetery, located at 501 North Guadalupe Street, Santa Fe, New Mexico, at 10:00 a.m.
