Alan Rex Cole

August 26, 1934 — March 3, 2019

Colonel Alan R. Cole age 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at his home in Corrales, New Mexico.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years Merry Cole; his son, Scott Cole and wife Lisa, daughters Stacy Cole Stefan and Todd Tijerina, Merry Hanson and husband Mark, grandchildren Ryan and Kimberly Cole, Nicole and Dylan Stefan, Derrick Duran and Hayley Hanson.

Colonel Cole earned a Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois in February 1957 and entered the Air Force in June of the same year. His first assignment was as Munitions and Nuclear Ordinance Officer with the 20th Tactical Fighter Wing in the United Kingdom. He later earned a Master of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering. In 1968 after various important assignments, he served as Assistant Professor of Physics and course Director at the United States Air Force Academy. Then in 1982 after 2 assignments in the Washington DC area he became the Chief of the Advanced Technology Division at Kirtland Air Force Base NM. His decorations include the Oak Leaf Cluster, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and The Legion of Merit. He took great pride in his family and he severed his country with outstanding dedication and honor.

Colonel Cole along with his wife were very adventurous, enjoying skiing, ballooning, fox hunting and ship cruises. After transferring to New Mexico, they fell in love with the state and decided to make it their home forever.
