Alfred Michael Gonzales

Alfred "Fred" Michael Gonzales, age 78 of Santa Fe, NM, passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, July 27, 2025, in Rio Rancho, NM. He was born on September 29, 1946 in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his daughters, Arlene Pies, Amy Gonzales, and Elizabeth Gonzales, his son-in-law, Garrin Pies, his grandsons, Daniel & Justin Pies, his sisters, Theresa, Clara , Christina, and Helen and many other loving family, relatives, and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Diann Gonzales, his parents, Juan and Guadalupita Gonzales, and his brothers and sisters.

Fred loved going to the casino and going fishing with his nephews, Johnny, Billy, Phil, and Gary. He also loved taking pictures and making people laugh. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his two grandsons. He liked to visit his family in Washington because of his love for the water and outdoors. He owned his own construction company where he built and remodeled many homes. After he retired, he became a construction teacher at Bernalillo High School, where he touched the lives of many students and faculty. He also worked at A Park Above in Rio Rancho and spent his summers giving free lunch to children. He was the life of the party and he had an innate ability to make everybody in the room smile. He was a fantastic, family man who served as a role model for many people who loved him.

Our dad loved giving back or helping others in need so in lieu of flowers, please donate to your local food bank, your local school supply or teacher drive.

A rosary will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at 9:30 am with a mass following at 10:15 am at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church located at 5712 Paradise Blvd. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114. A reception will be celebrated immediately after at Haynes Park in Rio Rancho, 2006 Grande Blvd SE. Please join us and our family as we celebrate his joyous life.
