Alicia Garcia

February 29, 1924 — January 31, 2022

Alicia Garcia (Alice Mares), 97 of San Ysidro, New Mexico passed peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, January 31st, 2022.  

Alicia was born on February 29, 1924 and was raised in Peña Blanca, New Mexico. She attended St. Joseph College to become a teacher. She taught in San Luis, Corrales, and Cañon where she met her husband Delfin Garcia. She left her teaching career to raise her family in San Ysidro, New Mexico. She was a devoted Catholic who prayed the rosary daily, taught catechism for many years and always had God in her heart. 

 

Alicia is preceded in death by her parents Ramon and Adelina Mares, husband Delfin Garcia, and siblings, Romeo Mares, Richard Mares, Peggy Mares, Edwina Mora and Rose Baca. Alicia is survived by her eight loving children, Cecilia Coleman (Hugh), Rita Lucero (Fred), Leroy Garcia (Dolores), Nellie Chavez (Christian), Gladys Roybal (Del), Patricia Abeyta (Daniel), Patrick Garcia, and Sam Garcia (Marie); her 13 grandchildren, Vincent Encinias, Marina Encinias, Antonio Garcia, Quincy Coleman, Matthew Garcia, Jason Gil, Alicia Chavez, Christopher Chavez, Adelina Abeyta, Dominic Garcia, Impala Coleman, Amanda Ortiz and Marissa Garcia; and 16 great grandchildren. Her beloved brother Ray Mares and sister in laws Esther Mares and Aurora Martinez. 

 

Alicia will be greatly missed and always loved.

 

The Rosary and Mass will be held at 10am on February 17th at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Rio Rancho, NM. Burial will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery on February 18th at 9:00am.
