Amalia Camacho

April 26, 1931 — August 25, 2025

Amalia Camacho passed away peacefully at home on the afternoon of Monday, 25 August 2025, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was 94 years old and is survived by her son and only child, Frank Camacho, and her brother-in-law, German Gonzalez. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews from both sides of her family and many friends. Amalia was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Francisco Camacho, her niece Yolanda Gonzalez, her nephew Alfredo Elias Gonzalez, and numerous siblings/cousins including Marina Gonzalez, Amelia Gonzalez, Jilma Conrado, Leonor Leiva, Alfredo Gonzalez, and Oscar Padilla, among other relatives from her generation of the family.

Amalia was born in León, Nicaragua, on 26 April 1931, but spent most of her youth in the capital city of Managua. After marrying her husband, Francisco Camacho, in 1959, they settled in Los Angeles, California, where their son and only child, Frank, was born in 1960. After 40 years of living and working in Los Angeles, Amalia and Francisco moved to Albuquerque to be closer to their son.

Amalia was a devoted and loving wife and mother who cared selflessly for her family. She was a devout Catholic who loved the Lord Jesus Christ and had a deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and other saints from an early age. These devotions remained with her throughout her life until the end, and her faith was a great source of strength and consolation to her.

As a talented homemaker, Amalia was a skilled seamstress and an excellent cook. Among her various specialties was a delicious flan that was universally acclaimed as “the best ever” by all who had the pleasure of tasting it.

Amalia was also a life-long New York Yankees fan and shared a good-natured rivalry with her son Frank because of that, as he is a Los Angeles Dodgers fan. Their shared love of baseball was something that brought much enjoyment to her, especially in her later years.

Amalia never sought to call attention to herself, and she lived a long life of quiet faith and devotion to God and her family. She was a great gift and blessing to all whom she encountered.
