It is with sadness but with hope in our Lord’s Resurrection to inform you that our dearly beloved, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and Friend, Anatoliy Smagley, passed away on Thursday January 19, 2023 in Albuquerque, NM.
Anatoliy was born on January 12, 1939 in Trostyanets, Ukraine to Andrei Smagley and the former Olga Saulko. He graduated with highest honors from the Rostov-on-Don Agricultural Institute, Russia with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and served in the military reserve, achieving the rank of captain.
He was employed by the government as regional manager including the oversight of construction and engineering facilities in Almaty Region, Kazakhstan, where he was well respected for his technical expertise and the work which he accomplished. It was there that he met his future wife of 58 years, Valentina Boretskaya and they were married in August 1964. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Vladimir (wife Elena), daughter Yelena (husband Robert Notary) and grandchildren Edward, Maxim, and Daniel. He is predeceased by his parents, son Andrei and sister Raissa Dobrolezhe.
Anatoliy was generous and kindhearted, selflessly helping many people to get ahead in life. He was open, positive, and always ready to help. His smile, sense of humor, optimism, determination, and talent will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Mass will be held at All Saints Orthodox Church located at 10440 4th St NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114 at 12:00pm. Followed by a Burial at Sunset Memorial Park located at 924 Menaul Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107 at 2:30pm.
