Angie Stanley

Stanley, Arizona Angeline "Angie" passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, January 27, 2014 at age 99, just 99 days short of 100! Angie was born in Elk City, OK on May 5, 1914, first child of Pearl Arthur and Willie A. (McCollum) Lee. When she was about 4 years old, the family moved to Oklahoma Lane, TX where her father was the school teacher and a farmer. Angie helped raise her 10 siblings at the family home until her marriage in 1935 to Millard J. Stanley. She and M.J. lived in Texas, Arizona and New Mexico. She resided in Clovis, NM for 60 years. While in Clovis, she worked at Montgomery Ward for a number of years prior to taking a job at the County Clerk's office. She successfully ran for County Clerk and served at that office alternately for many years. In 2005, she moved to Socorro, NM to be closer to family. Angie was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Socorro, attending Sunday school and church each week as well as the Ladies Sewing Circle and Bible study groups. Angie loved traveling and was extremely proud of the fact that she had been to all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Ireland, England, Holland, Dubai and Australia. An annual event for Angie was going on deer and elk hunts as the camp cook and chief firewood gatherer. She went backpacking in the Gila Wilderness at age 65 and rockhounding in Australia at 87. Gardening was her passion. She raised flowers and vegetables every year. County Fair time saw her entering them and bringing home ribbons of every color including Best of Show. Angie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and siblings, Lahoma Lee, Avon Lee, James Lee, Gracie Rose, Alpha Everly, Joyce Davis and Edd Lee. She is survived by her only son, Dennis "Doc" Stanley and wife, Jean; grandchildren, Mike Stanley and wife, Meri, Matt Stanley and wife, Anne, and Margaret Stanley-Gonzales and husband, Robert; great grandchildren, Laura County and husband, Erik, Brian Stanley, Caroline Stanley, Trevor Stanley and wife, Amanda, Chynna Pearson and Juliana Gonzales; siblings, Dora Stout, Alma Yawn and Joe Lee and wife, Joan; numerous step-grandchildren; one sister-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. Service will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 9:00 am at the First Baptist Church, 203 Spring St., Socorro, with Pastor Paul Holt officiating. Interment will be at the Oklahoma Lane Cemetery near Farwell, TX. In lieu of flowers donations may be given in Angie's honor to the NM Boys Ranch, Hwy 304, Belen, NM 87002 .
