CHAVEZ - Antonio “Tony” A. Chavez, age 92, beloved and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, completed his journey on this earth and entered into Eternal Life with the Lord, Friday, January 7, 2011, while surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Tome, NM and was a resident of Bernalillo, NM. Tony was Veteran of United States Army, who served his country proudly during World War II and was a Purple Heart Recipient. He was preceded in death by his parents; eight siblings; and daughter-in-law, Rosalita Chavez. Tony is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Sophie Chavez; his children, Ruth Lopez and husband Richard, Mildred and Errol Chavez; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; seven Godchildren; sister-in-laws, Viola Garcia, Josephine Bernal and husband Jesse, Gertude and Ruby Chavez; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Tony will be greatly missed by all.
Visitations will be Tuesday, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Bernalillo, NM, where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Casket Bearers will be Joel Archuleta, Joey Garcia, Eddie De Lara, Mark A. Lopez, Benito Mirabal, and Justin Sisneros. Honorary Bearers will be Audry Duran, Johnny Archibeque, George Gabaldon, Tyke Torres, Dave Serbin, Orlando Lucero, Frank “Pancho” Sisneros, Joseph “Jopie” Garcia, Fred Branson and Lawrence Sena. Military Honors will be accorded by the Santa Fe Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard.
