Barbara Platt, age 91, passed away October 28, 2016 having spent her final days surrounded by her loving family.
Barbara is survived by her four children, Dirk (Jesse) Swanson, Marn Swanson DeLarue, Ward (Michelle) Swanson, and Baird (Meredith) Swanson, ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Barbara was born on October 25, 1925 in New Jersey to Dorothea Anderson and Lester Beach Platt. She attended Buxton School, a high school in Short Hills New Jersey. She attended Colorado College in Colorado Springs where she met her future husband Melvin Swanson. After rearing 4 children she earned a bachelor degree from the University of New Mexico in 1969.
Barbara was a strong, loving and witty individual who was passionate about many things including birdwatching and making jigsaw puzzles. She had a deep love for classical music, played the piano with a chamber music group, and was a devoted patron of the June Music Festival. She was a dedicated volunteer for many years at the Corrales Library. She was accomplished at Scrabble, traveling even out of the country to play in tournaments. She was an avid outdoorswoman excelling at fly fishing and bicycling (she rode 12 miles per day at age 78) on the ditch banks of Corrales.
