Barbara Jean Reed

Barbara Jean Reed, 98, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico passed away peacefully at home on May 23, 2026. Barb was born on May 6, 1928, in Canton Township, Illinois to Albert Sidney Hand and Jessie May (Smith) Hand.

Barb was very proud of her career as a mother and home maker. Some of her happiest years were spent traveling in an RV with her husband Jim. She made many friends whom she loved at Fairwinds Retirement Community where she lived for last twelve years of her life. Barb was known for her happy smile, caring cheerful personality, and loving heart.

She is survived by sons James S Reed and Timothy A Reed (Peggy); 5 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Barb was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, James S Reed and granddaughter Michelle A Crawford (Reed).

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to St. Judes Children’s Hospital, one of Barb’s favorite charities, or the charity of your choice in her name.

A private graveside service will be held at a future date.
