Barbara Pease Stuart

December 5, 1918 — January 2, 2019

Barbara Pease Stuart, daughter of Arline and Clarence Pease, was born in Baldwinville, Massachusetts on December 5, 1918. She attended Penn State University in College Park for one year and graduated in 1939 as a dental Hygienist from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She married Hugh Stuart in 1944.

For over 30 years (from 1965) she transcribed books into braille for the blind as well as teaching classes in braille for sighted people wishing to become certified braillists. She also taught some visually impaired people the touch system of braille.

Mrs. Stuart was a weekly reader of the daily paper for Newsline from its beginning in 1990, and after January 1997, read the New Mexico Magazine each month for the Newsline service. 

Mrs. Stuart is survived by nephews Robert Carels (wife Renata), Peter Carels (wife Kathleen), and several great-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by close family friends Jean Wilkinson Martinis (husband John) and Ann Elizabeth Wilkinson.

A memorial service for Mrs. Stuart will be held at 2PM on Saturday, February 23, 2019 in the La Vida Llena Chapel, 10501 Lagrima de Oro NE, Reverend Gerry Lightwine officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider a charitable donation to the La Vida Llena Employee Appreciation Fund, c/o La Vida Llena at the address above.
