In Loving Memory of Bernie Stauffer
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Bernie Stauffer, who passed away peacefully on August 16, 2026, at the age of 90, at her residence in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Bernie was born in Milagro, New Mexico, to Prudencio and Irene Castillo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Prudencio and Irene Castillo; brothers, Joe Gene and Manuel Castillo; sisters, Angie Jaramillo and Helen Delgado; son, Max Mata; and grandsons, Jeremy Trujillo Jr. and Idnero Chavez Jr.
Bernie leaves behind her sister, Silvia Madril of Albuquerque, NM; sister, Bella Torrez of Tularosa, NM; sister, Seferina Sisneros of Santa Rosa, NM; sister, Imagene Chavez of Alameda, NM; and brother and sister-in-law, Vincent and Christine Castillo of California.
She is also survived by her daughter, Christine Chavez of Albuquerque, NM; son and daughter-in-law, Frank B. and Lillian L. Mata of Tijeras, NM; daughter and son-in-law, Camen M. and Mark Haynes of Moriarty, NM; son and daughter-in-law, Felix and Shelia Mata of Los Lunas, NM; son and daughter-in-law, Pete and JoAnn Mata of Albuquerque, NM; son and daughter-in-law, Manuel and Christa Mata of Albuquerque, NM; and daughter and son-in-law, Prudie and Jeremy Trujillo of Albuquerque, NM, and daughter, Jessica Griego, of Albuquerque, NM.
She also leaves behind 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, who will forever cherish her memory.
Bernie was employed by Furr’s Cafeteria for 20 years and later worked for Camlu Retirement for 15 years. She was a hardworking and devoted woman who took pride in caring for others.
Bernie enjoyed traveling, planting flowers, and cooking. She was a longtime AARP member and a member of St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church. Her love, strength, and devotion to her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
May Bernie rest in eternal peace. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
