Keisel, Betty D.
Elizabeth (Betty) Keisel, a long time resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Monday, September 17th. She would have been 91 years of age on Wednesday the 19th. Betty is survived by her daughter, Suzanne, son Bill, his wife Vickie and grand children, Nick and Kate. Betty was married to Henry Clarke Keisel for over 50 years
before he passed in 2007. Betty was born in Chicago, IL, to the most amazing parents, Elmer and Agnes Kluge.
Betty graduated from DePaul University with a marketing degree and pursued additional studies in fashion design and art at Northwestern University and the University of New Mexico. Betty was an active community member serving the New Mexico Arts and Science Museum and was also one of the first docents at the New Mexico Art Museum. However, Betty’s passion was for her family, travel and her career in experimental and spiritual art.
Betty will be so missed by her family. She was such a special person. Her Grandson Nick felt that his grandmother was the most insightful and caring person he has ever known and Granddaughter, Kate loved her as her best friend. Mom was always someone you could talk to, who cared about people and who lived a very full life.
She will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
Betty loved to travel and often traveled with her dear art friends to Europe, New Zealand, The Netherlands and South America. However, her very favorite place was the beautiful and spiritual landscape of New Mexico.
Betty was a passionate artist who exhibited her work in museums, art centers and universities throughout the United States. Betty was both president and vice president of the Pinon Branch of The American League of Pen Women. She was also a long-standing member of the Society of Layerists in Multi-Media (SLMM), a signature member of the NM Watercolor Society and the Western Federation Watercolor Society. Additionally, she supported the NM Arts and Crafts Fair through writing a federal grant to bring a national watercolor show to the NM Arts and Crafts. Her work has been published in magazines, books and catalogues.
