Billie Rice

May 25, 1928 — June 4, 2023

Billie Rice, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was called home to be with the Lord on June 4, 2023, at the age of 95. She was born on May 25, 1928, in Lamesa Texas, and throughout her life, she embodied the values of humility, gratitude, and respect for all of God's creation.

Billie was a dedicated member of Women in Construction (WIC) for many years, where she formed many cherished friendships and enjoyed traveling with her group. However, she never lost sight of what was most important in life: her family. She treasured every moment spent with her husband George Rice of 54 years, son Chuck Ward (Cindy) of Amarillo Texas, daughter Micki Ward Forget (Leo) of East Brookfield Massachusetts, grandchildren Anthony Forget (Janell), Jennifer Forget Krog (Peter), Cole Ward, Jamie Ward(Jaimie Saucedo), Zane Ward, Chad Ward, and 13 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her sisters, Gloria Mahaney and Jean Wilson, her son Rex Ward (Cecile), her grandson Tye Ward, and her great-nephew Gary Lee Throckmorton.

Her love for them was unwavering, and she never missed an opportunity to celebrate their birthdays and other milestones. Billie was a loving person who made sure her home was always open and always welcomed family and friends.   Billie took under her wing her two nieces Lana and Cissy as her own when their mothers passed away and her home was always open.

Billie’s daughter in law Cecile Ward (Santa Fe, New Mexico) was a big part of Billie’s life after Rex passed with weekly visits checking on Billie and George.

George and Billie lived in Las Vegas for many years before moving to Albuquerque in 2002. Billie loved hosting family and friends as they came to Vegas, as she loved her slots. She also loved attending Potlucks at the church and was often called the “Bag Lady”.

Billie was a faithful member of Netherwood Park Church of Christ in New Mexico, where she found strength and solace in her faith. Her devotion to God was evident in her daily life, as she lived with grace and kindness, always putting others before herself.

We will honor Billie's life with a viewing on Friday, June 9th, 2023, from 9-10 am at Daniels Funeral home at 7601 Wyoming Blvd NE, followed by a service from 10-11 am, and burial to follow at Sandia Memory Gardens. We are grateful for the time we had with Billie and will cherish her memory forever.

In the face of adversity, Billie remained steadfast in her faith, and her love for God and her family never wavered. Her life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and devotion to the Lord. We take comfort in knowing that she has found eternal peace and joy in the arms of her Savior.
