Mrs. Dothy Mae Carlisle, affectionately loved by family and friends, peacefully departed this life on May 20, 2026.
Dothy Mae Carlisle was born on May 29, 1955, in Tallapoosa, Alabama, to the late Willie Read Young and Ella Bell Young. She spent most of her life in Detroit, Michigan, where she built lifelong friendships, cherished memories, and a legacy of faith, service, and love. She later made her home in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
Dothy received her early education at J.D. Thompson Elementary School and attended Benjamin Russell High School and Highland Park High School. Continuing her educational journey, she attended Henry Ford Community College. She dedicated many years of professional service as a Computer Specialist for the Internal Revenue Service, where she was respected for her diligence, intelligence, and professionalism.
At an early age, Dothy accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and remained steadfast in her Christian faith throughout her life. She was a devoted member of Grant Chapel AME Church, where she faithfully served and shared her love for God with others. Among her many acts of service, she served as a Sunday School Instructor and was passionate about helping others understand God’s Word.
Dothy had a compassionate spirit and a heart for serving the community. She volunteered as a Court Advocate for abused and neglected children in Wayne County, dedicating her time and energy to protecting and uplifting vulnerable youth. She was also a proud member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed fellowship, laughter, and meaningful connections with friends and loved ones.
Dothy was united in marriage to Roy McQueen on April 19, 1979. Later in life, she married Samuel Carlisle, who preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving daughters: LaTrice Brown and LaTonya McQueen Akuffo; sons-in-law, Winston Wendell Brown and Michael Offei Akuffo; grandchildren, Tyrus Darnell Brown, Jarius Deon Brown, Jordyn Offeibea Akuffo, Eli Asare Akuffo, and Elias Damoa Akuffo; two sisters, Willie Pearl Daniels and Jo Ann Young; one brother, Willie Reed Davis; along with a host of extended family members, church family, dear friends, and loved ones whose lives were touched by her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering faith.
Dothy Mae Carlisle will forever be remembered for her gentle spirit, her servant’s heart, her devotion to family, and her enduring love for God.
