MEACHER-Captain Leo Meacher, Captain, USN (retired), 89, passed away, September 4, 2010 in New Mexico. He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Delaine Walker; sons, Eric and Steve Meacher; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Thalia. With an early passion for flying, Leo became a pilot. He served 25 years in the U.S. Navy. He flew combat missions in WWII, and the Korea conflict. He was highly decorated and received The Distinguished Flying Cross, Silver Star, Air Medal (seven stars), Navy Unit Commendation for the USS Cowpens and the USS Badoeng Strait (one star), Asiatic Pacific (nine stars), WWII Victory Medal, China Service Medal, National Defense Medal (one star), Korean Service Medal (three stars), United Nations Service Medal, Philippine Liberation (two stars), and the Korean Presidential Unit Citation. After retirement, Leo spent many happy days flying sailplanes in Virginia, Colorado, California, and New Mexico. He will be sorely missed by his many friends and relatives. Interment will be held at 9:00 am, October 25, 2010 in Arlington National Cemetery.
