Carol S. DeRomero

October 9, 1944 - February 17, 2024

Carol S. DeRomero, born in Chickasha, Oklahoma, on October 9, 1944, peacefully passed away at her home in Albuquerque, NM, surrounded by her loving family on February 17, 2024.

She is survived by her devoted husband Erich L.T. DeRomero, whom she married on August 22, 1975, and her cherished children Kerri Shawn Karel and Garrett (Jessica) DeRomero. Carol also leaves behind her four beloved adult grandchildren: Cory, Justin, Bree, and Kaiden. She is remembered fondly by her brother Don (Nancy) Smith.

Carol was preceded in death by her mother, Lucy Smith Fairley, father, Noel Glenn Smith Sr., step-father, Alton Fairley, and brother, Noel Glenn  (Joyce) Smith Jr.

A woman of many talents and passions, Carol found joy in the simple pleasures of life. An avid reader, she delighted in exploring the pages of books and embarking on camping and fishing adventures with her family. Her compassionate heart led her to extend a helping hand to others, especially her loved ones.

Carol's pursuit of knowledge and excellence was evident throughout her life. She graduated near the top of her class from Valley High School in 1962 and was a member of the inaugural class of The New Mexico Certified Paralegal Training Course, co-sponsored by The State Bar of NM and the University of NM Law School, graduating on May 30, 1976. As a trailblazer, she became the first woman in NM history to be appointed as a court-appointed receiver for two defunct savings & loans in the 1980s. Alongside her professional endeavors, Carol successfully operated a bookkeeping business for many years, showcasing her entrepreneurial spirit.

Friends and family are invited to join in celebrating Carol's remarkable life on Friday, March 1. The service will commence at 10:30 AM, followed by a brief graveside ceremony and a reception. The event will be held at Daniels Family Funerals, located at 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause dear to Carol's heart.
