Rio Rancho/Albuquerque, NM - Carol J. (Kohl) Mauthe, age 89, formerly of Appleton, WI, passed away at her home with family by her side on December 15, 2021, after a brief illness.

Carol was born August 12, 1932, in Appleton WI.  She was married to Norbert W. Mauthe.  Growing up, Carol attended St. Therese Catholic School and graduated from Appleton High School in 1950.  When not being a homemaker, Carol worked at Norbert's electroplating business.  Later in life, Carol worked with her son, Tom, at Banta Media.  Later Carol worked for the Appleton Post-Crescent.

Carol was very athletic, having played on a ladies' softball league where she was the star left fielder and a lefty.  She also has a 300 game in bowling to her credit that she was proud of.  She was an avid sports fan, often enjoyed watching a game highlighting the Brewers, Packers and her beloved Chicago Cubs.

Carol loved going for car rides, taking her granddaughters on many adventures.  Later, she took over as the navigator on trips around town, making sure to have her driver stop to get a burger and fries.

Carol and her sisters were particularly fond of their Irish heritage, ultimately taking a group trip to visit their roots.

Carol is survived by her sons, Mark (Sue) Mauthe, Albuquerque, NM; Tom Mauthe, West Allis, WI; her granddaughters, Nicole (Erick) Knop, Neenah, WI and Erin Mauthe, Albuquerque, NM; her sister, Rita Froehlich, Appleton, WI; her sister-in-law, Sue Vandervelden, Greenville, WI; and many nieces and nephews.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Norbert; her brothers, Clint, Laverne (Bun), Kenneth, Edward James and her sisters, Margaret (Mugsy) and Mary.

A celebration of life is planned for the future in Appleton, WI.

We were all lucky to have Carol in our lives.  We love you and miss you.
