Caroline Messier, age 85, passed away on February 2, 2026, in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. She was born on May 14, 1940, in Brooklyn, New York, to her parents, Paul and Elva Barbarotto.
Caroline was united in marriage to Ulysse Joseph Messier Jr. on May 16, 1964, in Howard Beach, New York. They shared 61 years of marriage.
She was employed by the Belen Consolidated School District for ten years. Caroline took great pride in her family, and her most meaningful accomplishment in life was being a devoted mother and grandmother.
Caroline enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and quilting. She was a faithful member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church and supported several charitable organizations, including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, St. Joseph’s Indian School, and St. Labre Indian School.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Elva Barbarotto.
Caroline is survived by her husband, Ulysse Messier; her son, Michael A. Messier; her daughter-in-law, Mandi Messier; her grandchildren, Michael J. Messier and Marli R. Messier; and her grand-dog, Jordan, all of Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
A Rosary will be held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church on February 20, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Vista Verde Memorial Park at 12:30 p.m.
