Celene Frances Gunther Keegan, eighty-one, passed away in Albuquerque, August 29, 2024, after fighting a valiant battle against Alzheimer’s. Celene was born in Baton Rouge, where her father was stationed, on February 2, 1943.
The family lived in the Philippines until posted to Albuquerque, c.1953. She attended Zia Elementary, Jefferson Junior High, and Highland High School. Celene was strikingly beautiful, with olive skin, dancing dark eyes, and a million-dollar smile. She loved music, dancing, and concerts throughout her life. She was a skilled ice skater from an early age and was a talented seamstress who created fashionable clothing for herself and her family. She married and had one daughter, who made her the proud grandmother of Cary and Cody Welch. Celene later married Gary Keegan.
She retired from the City of Albuquerque after twenty-five years, during which she was a dedicated member of the City’s union and a delegate to conventions. She was a loyal, devoted friend, always willing to lend a helping hand or a comforting shoulder.
Celene Keegan is sorely missed by her grandsons and her lifelong friends, all of whom admire her full, productive life and accomplishments.
Rest in Peace.
