Charles Brokaw

Brokaw died March 18, 2010, in Gallup. He was born Jan. 12, 1918, in Parsons, Kan. Brokaw was in the 116 Battalion of the Navy See Bees in World War II. He worked over 30 years as an engineer for the railroad. He enjoyed being surrounded by family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening, photography, lapidary work and silversmithing. He was a great storyteller. Survivors include his wife Ellen Gayle Brokaw; daughters Cindy Brokaw, Candace Challenor, both of Calif.; sister Floy Owen of Calif; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Viva Whitney, Mansell Brokaw; brothers Henry Whitney, Charles Whitney, Everitt Whitney; sisters Helen Hill of New Mexico, Carol Layholder of Calif.; stepsisters Margie Whitney and Hazel Whitney Conway and stepdaughter Linda Alice Rice.
