HALBER - Charlotte Merriman Allen Halber, 86, born in Faribault, MN on December 2, 1939, died peacefully from complications of a stroke on June 6, 2026 in Albuquerque, NM where she has been a resident since 1982. She is survived by her sons Craig Richard Halber and wife Sandy of Scottsdale, AZ, and Scott David Halber of El Paso, TX; four grandchildren, Shaun Allen Halber, Emily Kate Halber, Sarah Jenny Slaughter, and Candace Charlotte Halber; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne Slaughter and Everleigh Kate Slaughter; and her sister, Edith Ann Rotsaert of Seattle, WA. She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Alexander Jon Halber (1939-2012); a son, Jon Allen Halber (1963-1970); her parents, Guerdon Sebastian Allen (1904-1971) and Ada Adelle Nutting Allen (1939-1980) both of Faribault, MN and Seattle, WA; and Scott’s wife, Belita Earline Halber (1961-2015). Charlotte earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO in 1962 and while living in Dayton, OH where her husband was stationed in the Air Force, she taught choral music at Fairborn Junior High School. During their 24 Air Force years spent throughout the U.S., the Azores, Portugal and Germany, she frequently directed both the Officers Wives’ Club choral ensembles and the base chapels’ adult and children’s choirs. She also was active in their sons’ elementary school and Boy Scout music and drama programs. While living in Albuquerque, Charlotte had memberships in the Albuquerque Philharmonic Orchestra as a violinist, and as a vocalist in the Albuquerque Civic Chorus, the Opera SouthWest and the Albuquerque Civic Light Opera Association. She retired in Albuquerque, both as a Certified Nursing Assistant at St Joseph’s Rehabilitation Hospital, and as a pediatric receptionist for Dr. Robert G Sullivan.
Charlotte’s volunteer organizations encompassed Oasis International Language Experience Tutoring Program, Presbyterian Hospital patient transport and companion, Carrie Tingley Children's Rehabilitation Hospital, Roadrunner Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity Care-A-Vanners, Workamping, Compassion International, Albuquerque Center for Spiritual Living, and Kaseman Hospitals Presbyterian Hospice In-Patient Care Unit. Her hobbies included travel, scrapbooking, music, bridge, skiing and golf. Family and friends are invited to a memorial celebration of Charlotte’s life at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, the 28th of June, 2026 in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral, 7601 Wyoming Blvd NE, in Albuquerque. Charlotte would have been pleased to have memorial contributions made to The Presbyterian Hospice In-Patient Unit, 8300 Constitution Ave NE, Albuquerque NM 87110. Interment will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Charlotte’s care has been entrusted to Daniels Family Funeral Services.
