Christine Anne Shaffner, lovingly called “Mammoo” by many who adored her, left her Earthly body on April 19th, 2024.
Christine was born in Stock-on-Trent, England on December 23rd, 1950 to Ronald and Alice Whitmarsh. She moved to the United States as a young woman and became a Naturalized Citizen of the United States on September 16, 2010.
Being in a military family, she moved around quite a bit in childhood. She was a fierce big sister to her brother David and loved her family in England immensely. She told stories most of her time in Singapore. She was a teenager and enjoyed going to fancy dinners with her parents and spending time at the pool with her friends.
After moving to the United States, she became the matriarch of her family. As a mother of two, she was immeasurably proud of Jim and Poppy and loved them with all her heart.
When she became a Grandparent, or as we all call her, “Mammoo”, she found even more joy and love. The title she was most proud of in life was Mammoo, and she never once let her grandchildren forget how much she loved them. She expressed her love through bags of M&M’s for each one, endless hugs, kisses, hand-holding, and so much laughter.
As a friend, she was loyal and lovely, always. For Christine, there was no difference between friends and family. Once she called you friend, you were family.
In her community, she had a long and beautiful career at Socorro Insurance Mart where she had the opportunity to serve and love so many members of the community she held dear.
Christine was the kind of person who opened her arms, heart, and home to anyone who needed it. Many family members and friends found themselves in her care in times of need, and also, in times of joy. Having a home where all could gather was important to her. And the door was always open, no matter what. She was adamant that when the time came, she did not have a funeral service, but rather, a party in her honor.
For this reason, her family would like to invite you to her home on Saturday, April 27th for a come-and-go celebration of the woman we all loved. We will begin receiving guests at 10 am, but will be a come-and-go affair.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joryan Shaffner (grandson), and her precious pup, Lucy.
Left to love and carry on her memory are her brother, David (Tracy) Whitmarsh, Son, James Shaffner, Daughter, Poppy (Egan) Ulbricht, Grandchildren, Jocelyn (Kollin) Mosley, Jarryn (Matilda) Shaffner, Rebecca Ulbricht, Peter Ulbricht, William Ulbricht, Sophia McCellon, and Lily Ulbricht. A host of family in England, and friends all near and far.
The family would like to express unending gratitude to Cindy, Cuatro, Anna, Melissa, and Jean for all their love and support both for her and for us.
