Obituary

Christine “Chris” Thomas, 80, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026.

Chris was born on November 14, 1945, to Clark and Virginia “Ginger” Crandall and was raised in Lakewood, Colorado. She came from a family rich in history and tradition. Her father, Clark, immigrated to the United States from Germany as a child, while her mother’s family traced its roots to early Minnesota settlers. Her grandfather, Henry Rollins, left behind journals and writings that are now preserved in Minnesota’s historical collections.

Chris often spoke fondly of her childhood, which was filled with holiday gatherings, laughter, and visits to the family homestead farm in Minnesota. Those experiences shaped her lifelong appreciation for family and remained among her most treasured memories.

Chris carried her love of family traditions into every holiday she hosted. She was an incredible cook who poured her heart into every meal, and her home became the gathering place for family celebrations. Her holiday tables were unforgettable—beautifully set with thoughtful centerpieces, carefully chosen dishes, and food made with love. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome, and those gatherings will remain some of her family’s most treasured memories.

After living in Colorado and later New York, Chris eventually made Albuquerque her home. She enjoyed a successful career in outdoor advertising, including many years with Clear Channel Outdoor, where she was known for her warmth, determination, and ability to build lasting relationships.

Above all, Chris was devoted to her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clark and Virginia Crandall, and her sister, Casey Gottula. She is lovingly remembered by her sons, Matthew Thomas and wife Velma Thomas, Michael Thomas, and Jonathon Thomas, and by her sisters, Ann Crandall and Peggy Corbetta.

She was a proud grandmother to Lauren Martinez, Zach Thomas, Matthew Tapia, Erin Ross, Josh Thomas, Olivia Thomas, Alayna Thomas, Kaleigh Thomas, Sean Thomas, and Noah Thomas.

She was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren, with another expected to join the family later this year.

At Chris’s request, no funeral or memorial service will be held. She chose cremation and asked that family and friends remember her through the stories they share, the traditions they continue, and the love they shared with her.

Chris will be deeply missed, forever loved, and lovingly remembered by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
