Christopher Lee Chavez

1975 — 2025

Albuquerque, New M

In loving memory of Christopher Chavez, beloved Son, Brother, Father, Conco, Pa, Friend and Musician.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Christopher Chavez, a deeply loved and gifted soul whose beat touched the hearts of many. Born and raised in New Mexico, Christopher passed away at the age of 50—far too soon for a man who still had memories to make, songs to play, and stories to share.

A passionate musician, Christopher was a phenomenal drummer whose rhythm pulsed not only through his music, but through the lives of everyone who had the joy of knowing him. Whether he was behind a drum kit or visiting with family and friends, Chris radiated warmth, generosity, and laughter. Music was his passion, but people, his people, were his heart.

Christopher was a devoted son to Peter and Doreen Chavez, and a proud brother to Peter Chavez (fiancée Chrissie; children Peter and Alexis; and grandson Vinny) and little Sistie Samantha Chavez (partner Ezra Chavira and son Abel). He was a loving and dedicated father to his daughters Bernadette Barnes (husband DeHaven and their children Leilah, Ava, and Leah), Jacqueline (partner Joshua Bela-Chacon and daughter Aubrey), and Isabella (fiancé Dante Hernandez). To his grandchildren, he wasn’t just a grandpa—he was their Pa, their protector, their biggest fan. His dogs, Manian and Tazz — who he fondly called his “kids” — were constant companions and deeply loved. He was a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, cheering them on with passion and loyalty through every season. He found peace in the great outdoors, especially while camping, being surrounded by nature, and sitting around the campfire, sharing stories, laughs, and unforgettable moments. To Christopher, family had no limits, it extended to anyone who needed a place to rest, a warm meal, a laugh, or simply someone to listen.

Christopher had a remarkable gift for making people feel at home. His door was always open, his heart even more so. He lived a life of kindness, never turning away a friend—or a stranger who would soon become one. His spirit was one of unconditional love, fierce loyalty, and joyful noise.

His departure leaves an unimaginable void. Yet, the echoes of his drum beats, the warmth of his hugs, the rhythm of his laughter, and the love he gave so freely will live on in the hearts of everyone lucky enough to have known him.

Christopher Chavez will be deeply missed, but his memory, his music, and his legacy will live on—steady as a heartbeat, strong as a rhythm, eternal as love. Rest in peace, Christopher.

We’ll carry your beat with us always
