Claudine Appleton Jennings

September 8, 1915 — June 29, 2010

Claudine Jennings, 95, of Farmington, died Tuesday, June 29, 2010, in Farmington. She was born Sept. 8, 1915, in Murchison, Texas, to Claude and Lola Loper Appleton. Claudine married Al Jennings on April 9, 1932. They farmed around Clyde, Texas, until 1945. They purchased a laundry business in Abilene, Texas, that they owned until the family moved to Farmington in 1957. They put in the first coin-operated laundry in this area. When the laundry was sold in 1959, they bought property at 301 S. Miller Ave., where they started Al's Furniture. In 1963, Al's Trailer Sales was added. A new chapter of Claudine's life began in 1967 when she and Al retired, sold the business to their sons, Ron and Leo and traveled. They were full time RVers for most of the next 13 years. That was bad news for a lot of fish in North America. Their travels extended from southern Mexico to many places in Canada. In 1980, when Al became ill with Parkinson's disease, they came home to be close to their family and friends. Claudine took pride in being able to care for him until he succumbed in 1987. She then became involved in many civic and church groups. She was a faithful member of Eastside Church of Christ until her battle with Alzheimer's progressed in 2009. Claudine had many hobbies: quilting, crochet and sewing. She enjoyed walking, bowling, playing bridge and dominoes. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Lola Appleton; her husband of 55 years, Al Jennings; son, Jim Jennings; grandson, Keith Jennings; sister, Lilly Fox; and brother, Ben Appleton. She is survived by Leo (Marzette) Jennings, Ron (Judy) Jennings and Faye Jennings Watts; eight grandchildren, Lesa (Rick) Alcorn, Cindy Chavez, Charmaine Jennings, Christy (Larry) Lucero, Cherise (Kyle) Brown, Wesley (Faye) Jennings, Larry (Penny) Shepard and Ronald Lee Jennings; 11 great-grandchildren and numerous "great-great-grands." A celebration of Claudine Jennings' life will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 7, at Eastside Church of Christ, 2012 Huntzinger Ave., in Farmington. J.B. Harrington and Aden Gingerich will officiate. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Farmington. Pallbearers are Rodney Bird, Chaz Avery, Brian Sandoval, Larry Lucero, Kyle Brown and Bill Harrell. Honorary pallbearers are Brandon Phillips, Kevin Phillips, Chandler Avery, Ron London, Dwane Robinson, Aden Gingerich and Gingerich Home care givers.
