Obituary

Clinton M. Winfield Sr went home to the Lord on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the young age of 79.  Clinton was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 2, 1939 to the late Herbert M. Winfield and Lillian B. Bentley.  He was the 2nd oldest of four children.

 

Clinton Trusted and Believed in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized on the profession of his faith at an early age.   His desired to share the Love of Jesus Christ and shared this faith with his family and friends. 

 

Clinton met and married his soul mate, Floretta Darby in November 24, 1957.  This union was blessed with five sons, Clinton M. Jr., Goulton J., Calvin U., Angelo G., and Michael E.  Winfield.  They adopted two of their granddaughters, Marion F. and Wendy M. Winfield.

 

Clinton started his career in the U.S. Air Force, which he served time in Vietnam. His life in the Air Force gave him and his family the opportunity to visit different places in the U.S. and around the world. His goal and mission in life was to take care of his family.  Even while he was serving in the U.S. Air Force, he took time out to be a Boy’s Scout Leader, a Football and Basketball coach, and a variety of other activities to be involved in his family life and his community.   Clinton spent 21 years in the Air Force Where he received many Medals, Honors and Achievements for his outstanding work and dedications. After retiring from the Air Force, they were soo embraced and honored to have his services that not only was he invited back for the opportunity for a 2nd retirement this also accompanied a promotion which Clinton accepted for another 20 years as a Federal Worker.  After retiring from 2 -20 years’ careers, Clinton continued his involvement in the community and providing for his family by working with UNM Athletics parking for 10 years as well as New Mexico Airport Shuttle with Park-n-Shuttle as Driver foe also 10 Years, until his beloved Wife became ill and resigned to provide for her needs.   He was always willing to help out not only with his family, but many friends and community.

 

Clinton always wanted to make a difference in this world and provide for his family with his hard work and dedication and ultimately became aware of the need in his community and inaugurated a program in 1977 through Kirkland Air Force Base (KAFB) Fire Department to feed Families and Children in need focusing during the Christmas time thereby providing a hot meal and gifts for children whom may go without. That program grew from a small group in 1977 to well over 3,000 families in need with this annual event.

 

Clinton was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Winfield and Lillian B. Bently, his sister Norma Gordon, His Beloved Wife, Floretta Winfield, son Calvin U. Winfield, and grandsons Michael Herrera, Cisco Winfield & Clinton M. Winfield, III.

 

He leaves to cherish his precious memories; to his Children; sons - Clinton, Goulton, Angelo & wife Patricia and Michael Winfield; daughters/granddaughters; Marion and Wendy Winfield; 17 grandchildren from Clinton Jr – Marion, Clinton III, Michael, Malcolm, Danielle & Andrew;  Goulton – Francisco, Lillian, Matthew, Lydia & Jasiel; Calvin – Christian & Keegan, Angelo – Wendy, Latoya, Eddie & Sarah; Michael – Elijah & Eboni; 10 great-grandchildren. Sister, Berthella Winfield; brother; Herbert Winfield; and a host of other relatives and friends.

 

Viewing and Service will be Grant Chapel AME Church in Albuquerque, NM.  The Viewing will be Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 3:00 pm.  The Service will be Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 9:00 am.  Clinton Sr. will be laid to rest in Santa Fe Nation Cemetery following the service.
