Connie, 44, of Farmington, past away Monday, April 5, 2010, at her home surrounded by her family.
She attended school in Shiprock until her family moved to Farmington in 1972. She attended McKinley Elementary and Tibbetts Junior High, and graduated from Farmington High School in 1983. She excelled in track and gymnastics and was active in Kelly Greens. She attended San Juan College and received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of New Mexico in 1996.
She taught language arts for 13 years at Koogler Middle School in Aztec. She adored her students as much as they adored and respected her. Connie will be deeply missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to know her.
Connie was preceded in death by her father, Fred Edwards.
She is survived by her mother, Mary Lou Edwards; her daughter, Ariel Vaughan; her son, Chad Vaughan; her fiancé, John Koewler; and his sons, Jackson and Jordan.
Other survivors include her mother-in-law, Elaine Harder; brother, Craig Edwards and wife, Tina; sisters, Judy Cathey and husband, George, and Margaret Stone and husband Glenn.
Connie will also be missed by many nieces and nephews including Shannon Higgins and her son Canyon; Stacy Brady, husband Ty and daughter Teagan; George Cathy and wife Heidi; Jessica Stem, husband Aaron and son, Conner; Chris Stone; Greg Cathy, wife Camille and son, Wacey; Zachary Roberts, wife Jenn and daughter, Meagan; and Madeline Edwards.
She loved yoga and walking with her sister. One of her favorite walking spots was along the river trail at Berg Park. A memorial fund has been established in Connie's name at Wells Fargo Bank to place a bench in her honor at Berg Park.
Dedication of the bench will be open to the public, to be announced at later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the memorial fund for: Connie Edwards/Judy Cathey (sister) at Wells Fargo Bank.
At her request a private service will be held for the family.
The family wishes to thank Doctor Jeff Neidhart, the nurses and staff at San Juan Oncology, and Dr. Clifford Clark and the staff at Basin Home Health Hospice for the wonderful care they provided.
With courage and grace, Connie endured 15 years of cancer and was an inspiration to all who knew her.
