Cordelia "Cordi" Carolus

Cordelia “Cordi” Carolus, age 86, passed on Tuesday, March 28, 2023.  Cordi was born to Tito and Margaret Valdez on February 9, 1937, in Tierra Amarilla, NM and grew up in Fairview, NM. She went on to the University of New Mexico to earn her master’s degree in education.  She started her teaching career at East San Jose Elementary in Albuquerque.  

Soon thereafter she married Air Force Lieutenant, Howard Carolus and she began her life as a military wife. Teaching school where they were stationed in Washington, DC, Boston, Massachusetts, and finally Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Upon her husband’s retirement from the military, she moved back to Albuquerque and began her second successful career as a State Farm agent, retiring after 20 plus years. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Tito and Maggie Valdez, Howard Carolus husband, Charles Sanchez husband, Josephine “Jojo” Abeyta sister and her husband Ernest “Buddy" Abeyta, and sister-in-law Rita Valdez.  She is survived by her son Ryan Carolus and wife Susan, Ernest Valdez brother, grandchildren Daniel Rogers and wife Emily, Spenser Carolus and fiancé Hannah, Chance Carolus and fiancé Caitlyn, great-grandchildren Elijah and Keenan Carolus, Everly and Isla Rogers.  Along with so many wonderful nieces, nephews, and cousins. All of whom she cherished dearly.

All are welcome to join as we gather to celebrate Cordi’s life on April 10th at 11:00 am at Daniels Funeral Home located at 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE. There will be a reception following the services at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:30 pm.
