Dan Cebada, a man whose life was marked by dedication, craftsmanship, and an abiding love for his family and community, passed away on May 16th, 2026, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born on July 7th, 1948, in Albuquerque, Dan—affectionately known as "Pops"—led a life rich with purpose and hard work, leaving a lasting legacy through the many lives he touched.Dan was a man of remarkable skill and resourcefulness. Throughout his years, he embraced numerous talents that shaped his path and enriched those around him. As a truck driver, he traveled across many states, embracing the open road with unwavering commitment. Entrepreneurial in spirit, Dan founded his own business recycling pallets for multiple companies in Albuquerque. Even beyond the usual years of retirement, he embraced the role of a handyman with enthusiasm and skill. His work stretched from painting and tile work to landscaping and an array of general repairs. Dan’s hands were always busy, driven by a restless spirit that found fulfillment in creating and restoring.
His hands, gifted with the precision and creativity of a carpenter, crafted beautiful and lasting works from wood. Many fortunate family members and friends continue to cherish the coat stands, picnic tables, chairs, and countless keepsakes that bear the mark of his careful handiwork.
But beyond Dan’s professional achievements and skills, it was his warmth, wisdom, and generosity that truly defined him. He had an unerring willingness to help those in need—whether lending a hand to one of his daughters moving out of state, fixing a car for a son, or supporting his sisters in times of need. His patience and compassion made him a trusted confidant. Often, he would impart encouragement and guidance grounded in faith, gently steering loved ones toward the solace and strength found in God's Word. Dan’s emotional and spiritual guidance was a pillar of support for all who sought it.
Among Dan’s cherished memories are countless fishing and camping adventures where he shared his love and knowledge of the outdoors. He reveled in teaching his children how to build fires, brew coffee over an open flame, bait hooks, catch fish, and prepare meals fresh from the water. The mountains and waterways were places of peace and joy for him, often offering moments of quiet reflection and connection.
Dan’s greatest joy was his family, around whom his pride and love revolved. He is survived by his devoted daughters Annette Quintero (Scott Vigil), Jeanette Lussier (Adrian Griego), Elizabeth Martinez, and Andrea Cebada; his sons James Quintero and Jason Quintero (Felisha Travis); along with 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sisters Ella Bustamante and her husband Henry, Cilvia Silcox and her husband Robin, and Pauline Rael and her husband Fred, as well as several nieces and nephews who all remember him fondly.
Dan was preceded in death by Theresa Quintero, lifelong partner and friend, his parents Demetrio and Odelia Cebada, and sisters Ethel Barnhart and Esther "Sefie" Cebada.
