Daniel Phillip Duran

May 29, 1984 — December 1, 2023

Albuquerque

Our Daniel passed away December 1st due to complications of Diabetes. He leaves us with a hole in our hearts that can never be filled. Those who knew him knew he was a very loving and caring person. He was so charismatic. He got so much joy from making everyone around him laugh, his timing was pretty darn good!  He was a jokester and relished it! Daniel adored all his family.  He touched so many lives and made an impact on everyone who met him. Daniel was a seasoned bicycler, often riding in some of the city cycling events. He was also an incredible snowboarder; he loved that sport most of all! He enjoyed the outdoors:  camping, fishing, and boating. For his short time with us, he lived a very full life. He was able to travel with his family to many places, even out of the country. He is already greatly missed by everyone he touched!

Daniel is preceded in death by his father LeRoy E. Duran Sr., his grandparents Robert & Viola Aragon and Emily Duran. He is survived by his two sons Noah & Orian Duran, his parents Shawn & Darlene Mondragon, his brother and hero LeRoy Duran Jr., his Grandfather Ben Duran Sr., his very special Aunt and Uncles Adrian & Judy Romero, and his Uncle Ted Candelaria, his cousins Jennifer Tapia and Chris Romero, along with his very best friend Grey Smith. He also held a very special place for Uncle Tony & Aunt Anita Casale.

If Daniel could say something to comfort all of us right now, this is what he would say:

“I just wanted to let you all know - I made it home! My journey to arrive here wasn’t an easy one, but it didn’t take too long. I had so many family members who arrived before me, waiting with open arms!  The hugs, love and kisses were so amazing! It was such a celebration! I wish you all could have seen it! Everything is wonderful here! It’s so fresh and new! Try not to cry and feel sad for me, just try to understand that God is now personally taking care of me. Mama, get some rest, you took such good care of me all my life!  I’m in the shelter of His hands. Here in God’s presence, there is no sadness, no sorrow, and no pain. With my Lord and Savior, there is no crying, and I’ll never hurt again. It is so peaceful here. Sorry to make this so short, but I must go for now.  I can’t wait to try out these wings! Always remember, I will never be too far from you.  If you need me, just whisper my name, and I will be right beside you with my usual smile! Until we are all together again, please carry me in your heart, and know I am forever with you. I love you all so very much!  Don’t ever forget that…..

PS   JESUS CHRIST!  These wings are REALLY awesome.....What?  Name in vain?  Oh Really? My bad…. sorry dude….”
