Daniel Joseph Plunkett

PLUNKETT - Daniel Joseph Plunkett born on July 4, 1940 in Philadelphia, PA, and a resident of New Mexico since 1992, died on Sunday, December 5, 2010 from cancer in the Veteran’s Hospital in Albuquerque. Dan proudly served his country during the Vietnam era; he was stationed in Germany. A loving person, full of energy, Dan enjoyed kidding and joking, especially about his Irish heritage and was in-fact a true descendent of Saint Oliver Plunkett, of Ireland. He loved life and his children and fellow human beings, and he was always ready to give privately of himself to causes and individuals. Dan as a tissue donor gave to others in their need. His parents Daniel J. Plunkett and Catherine Dunkley, and a daughter Terry Ann Plunkett-Thompson who died of cancer at the age of 42, February 5, 2010, predeceased him. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Ann Marie Plunkett, and his children from a former marriage: Mary Colleen Lorandeau and husband Robert of Levittown, PA and their nephew Jay Thompson, son of Terry Ann, and two wonderful dogs, Sheba and Pepper, and his son Daniel Plunkett and wife Mary of Langhorne, PA and their sons, Brain, Daniel, Thomas and James, of course their great dog, Lilly. His surviving siblings are Vincent Plunkett and wife Johne of Houston, TX, and sons Brandon, Vincent, and daughter Heather of Japan and two granddaughters; Eugene Plunkett and wife Marge of South Florida; and a sister Patricia Sierzenski and husband John of Wilmington, DE; also Ann “Little Ann” Clothier, cousin, of NJ, and Robin Pollay-Farley, (surrogate daughter) and husband Jim of Keller, TX. There will be an internment Friday, January 7, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N. Guadalupe St., Santa Fe, NM with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested by the family to be made in Daniel’s memory to Lions Clubs International Foundation, Dept 4547, Carol Stream, IL 60122-4547.
