Anaya, David Anthony Sr.
Age 71, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2019 in Albuquerque, NM at his daughter, Tanya's home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Socorro, NM on January 24, 1947, to Antonio, Jr and Maria (Marquez) Anaya. David grew up in Socorro and graduated from Socorro High School. He attended Western New Mexico University in Silver City and received his BA in Counseling. David was a member of the Army National Guard and retired from the Bureau of Reclamation after 42 years. He loved the outdoors, gardening, and especially his family. David was the founder of Sobre Mente, which we know today as Socorro Mental Health. He was an amazing father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was also an amazing pitcher. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Julian and Andy Anaya; his sister, Jenny Ramirez; and his grandson, Jerod Stapleton. David is survived by children, Jose "Andy" Anaya and Arianna Gonzales, Tanya Anaya and Javan Baca, Nadine Chavez and husband, Paul, Irene Anaya and Rene Valverde, David Anaya Jr. and wife, Garylene, Jasmine White and John Russell (Jones) and stepdaughter, Jessica Hobbs and husband, Zee; grandchildren, Adrian Anaya, Desiree and Angel Anaya, Dylan and Ayana Edwards, Randall Chavez, Destanee Lopez, David III, Dacia, Brianna, Ashly, Marissa and Carlos Anaya, Jorden and Jaxon Griffith, and Abby and Brandon Hobbs; great grandchildren, Aubri and Izabella Acosta and Jerrick (Gordo) Stapleton; his sister, Eileen Martinez; and Tia Ninfa. Rosary to be recited on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at 10:30 am at San Miguel Catholic Church, 403 El Camino Real , Socorro with the Mass of Resurrection to follow at 11:00 am Celebrant Father Stephen Hickman. Burial will take place at San Miguel Catholic Cemetery following service. Pallbearers will be David Anaya Jr., Jose "Andy" Anaya, Carlos Anaya, Dylan Edwards, Javan Baca and Rene Valverde. Honorary pallbearers are Michael Gonzales, Benny Anaya, Randall Chavez, John Russell (Jones), Adrian Anaya, Brandon Hobbs, Zee Hobbs, and Jerrick " Gordo" Stapleton.
