DAVID ANDREW JOHNSON
February 12th, 1970 - June 7th, 2026
David Johnson, owner of Admiral Camper Shells and Truck Accessories, passed away peacefully in his home recently, early on a Sunday morning. His hard-fought battle with cancer ended after five years, but he stayed positive and determined until the end. His heroic courage in facing the most aggressive forms of the disease reflected his strong character and self-reliant attitude. His love of life, family, and friends make his passing at only 56 years old age all the more tragic.
Dave was born the third child of Doane and Carolyn, joining Scott and Debbie to complete the Johnson family. He grew up sharing the adventures of boyhood in a great Duke City neighborhood with plenty of rambunctious kids. Most of his earliest memories involved high speeds on wheeled conveyances, and a daredevil’s disregard of danger. His idol was Evel Kneivel, who he called “Sneevel-Sneevel” until he was old enough to pronounce the name. He was nicknamed “Johnny Destructo” long before he graduated to BMX stunts on his favorite bike. His love of enjoying time with childhood friends followed him into adulthood, leading him on to larger excursions involving speedboats and camping at his favorite lakes.
It was during these trips that he met Annie Wilson, and the two of them built a life together that lasted the rest of Dave’s time with us. He earned the new nickname “Jet Boat Dave” by winning race after race against fellow watercraft enthusiasts, and many great weekends were spent driving “Sour but Sweet” and “Cotton Candy” around the lakes. He also loved Rat Fink, which fit in with his inclination to own and drive classic hot rods. Dave carried on the Johnson family love of the Dallas Cowboys, clashing beautifully with Anne’s devotion to Steeler Nation.
David and Anne ended up taking over the Johnson family business after his dad passed, and kept serving satisfied customers until the last weeks of Dave’s life. Admiral Manufacturing, as it was originally named, was a family owned and family run business in Albuquerque for 57 years - a testament to hard work and an innovative spirit. Keeping the company thriving was a source of great pride for Dave, and loyalty to his father’s legacy shined through every transaction he and Anne completed throughout their many years of dedication.
David was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, but still left the world at a very young age. He was also preceded by Scott’s daughter Lorana; Scott’s former wife Lynne; many of Anne’s close family, including her father, brother, and nephew: John, Johnny, and Brandon Epler, respectively. He is survived by his “better half” of 28 years, Anne Wilson; his brother Scott; Scott’s son Clayton & wife Emily; their children Remy and Rhett; Scott’s son Jesse and his boy Avery; his sister Debbie & husband Jordy Wommack; their daughter Stacey & husband Roan Conley; and their son Trevor & partner Carly Debevec.
A Memorial Service for David will take place at Daniel’s Funerals & Cremation on Wyoming Blvd, Wednesday, July 1st, at 10am, with a reception to follow. Please visit https://www.danielsfuneral.com and share your remembrances of this fantastic guy!
