65, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Socorro, NM on August 18, 1950 to Nestor and Victoria (Gonzales) Chavez. Richard, as he was affectionately known, was a lifelong resident of Socorro. He worked for the City of Socorro for over 33 years. Richard proudly served in the United States Army and the Army National Guard from June of 1970 until July of 1994. He was the heart of the family and would light up the room with his happy smile and his "Top of the line" jokes. Richard was a fan of all sports, he was an outstanding baseball player and he loved the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed hunting, cruising town and an occasional trip to the casino. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Raymond; and his sister, Isabel. David is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 37 years, Angela (Murrietta) Chavez; his devoted sons, David R. Chavez Jr., Daniel Chavez and wife, Leslie; and Jeremy Chavez and Marlene Rosas; his loving daughters, Christy Murrietta and Michael Gonzales; Marie Chavez and John Silva; and Sara Hinojosa and husband, Mundo; his brothers, Nestor Chavez and wife, Jaime; and Tony Soliz; his sister, Cecilia Robles and husband, Pedro; and many other loving family members and close friends. "Pompy" had 20 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, he was very proud of them all and will live on in their hearts forever. The Holy Rosary will be recited on Monday, January 4, 2016 at 7:00 pm at San Miguel Catholic Church, 403 El Camino Real , Socorro; Visitation begins at 6:00pm. As Were Richard's wishes, cremation will take place and then the Mass of Christian Burial and Resurrection will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 9:00 am also at San Miguel Catholic Church with Father Andrew Pavlak as Celebrant. Inurnment will take place in the Lemitar Cemetery. Pallbearers are Davon Murrietta, David Richard Chavez III, Kevin "KJ" Chavez, Xavier Chavez, Daniel Chavez II, Patrick Silva, Fabian Silva, Marissa Silva, Shailynn Chavez, Makayla Chavez, Tommie Chavez, Davaeh Murrietta, and Destini Murrietta.
