David Michael Johnson

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of David Michael Johnson, 52, of Edgewood, New Mexico, on February 23,2026.

David was born in Utica, New York and graduated from Mohawk Central School. He pursued higher education to earn an Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice from Herkimer County Community College and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Justice Administration and Psychology from Wayland Baptist University.

He built his career around his passion to serve and protect others. He worked as a police officer and corrections officer both in New York and New Mexico. Following his service in Law Enforcement and corrections, he continued his commitment to public safety through his work with University of New Mexico Hospital security department for many years, while recently adding private sector security employment with Vet Sec. David especially enjoyed working security for the New Mexico United soccer team matches.

David was hard-working, loyal, kind, and fiercely dedicated to his family and friends. He was driven to do his absolute best with every endeavor he undertook, with an unrivaled work ethic.

David was a devoted and loving husband and father, and is survived by his wife, Veronica Yukl-Johnson; stepchildren, Claire Yukl and James Yukl; and his siblings, Edward Johnson, Colleen Bunce, Michael Johnson and his wife Christina.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Johnson and Janice Johnson.

A celebration of life will be held at Daniels Family Funeral, 7601 Wyoming Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109 on Thursday, March 12,2026, at 2:00 P.M.
