David Salazar

David Salazar was originally from Santa Fe, NM and raised in Corrales, NM. He was the son of Marcos and Adelina Salazar. David was one of eight children.
In 1967, David answered his nation’s call by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps to serve his country during the Vietnam Conflict. During his time in The First Battalion First Marines , he received awards and medals for Valor, Marksmanship, Courage, Service as well as three Purple Heart medals for being wounded in combat.
After his military service, David had a varied career including: Truck Driving, Construction, Heavy Equipment Operator, and Masonry.
In 1988, David began working as an oxygen delivery driver and in a short time worked his way up in the field of Home Medical Equipment, ultimately becoming Branch Manager until he retired in 2002.
David will be remembered for his tenacious work ethic, frontier-like self-reliance, abundant generosity, and sense of humor. He was well-liked by everyone and never met a stranger. David was a regular volunteer serving his community through church and coached little league for his son and grandson. He was involved in both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts where he held several positions including Scoutmaster. He earned his Wood Badge Award and the Order of The Arrow Vigil Honor. David was known to be quite the fisherman; a passion that continues to live on amongst his family members.
David met Yolanda in 1973, and in 1977 they married. David loved Yolanda, and in their later years they enjoyed traveling and spending time together. He was active and involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren. It was evident that David loved them and took pride in who they were. In return, he was greatly respected, loved and will be missed immensely.
Preceded in death by: His Father Marcos Salazar, Mother Adelina Salazar, and Sister Priscilla Anctil.
Survived by: His Wife of 43 years, Yolanda Salazar, Son Micah Salazar and Wife Megan, Daughter Juliet Collins and Husband Jayd, Stepson Dominic Maestas. Grandchildren Jade Maestas, Asher Cordes, Alyssa Cordes, Gavin Collins, Adelyn Collins, Ethan Garcia, Margot Salazar. Siblings Mel Salazar, Fidel Salazar, Rachel Craft, Rebecka Goodwin, Elizabeth Sandoval, Stella Cordova and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be held on Tuesday December 22nd, 2020 at 10:30AM at Faith Church 900 Southern Blvd. SE Rio Rancho, NM 87124

Interment will be privately held at The United States National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico where he will be receiving full military honors.
