David “Mike” Stearnes, 62, Dad, Grampy, husband, brother, friend, and funny guy left this world on Monday, October 25, 2021, after a marathon run to beat pulmonary fibrosis. At the time of his death, Mike was in Phoenix, Arizona, awaiting a lung transplant, but couldn’t quite finish the race. Mike often said that his greatest achievement was his family. He “was crazy about” his wife, Sylvia, and would do anything for his kids and grandsons. Mike is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sylvia; his son Chase, grandson Aldo, of Albuquerque; his daughter Kiersten of Albuquerque; his daughter Audrey Moore, and son-in-law Jesse Grce of Los Angeles, CA; daughter-in-law Kelly Briley, grandsons Jackson and Logan, of Dallas, TX; mother Willa Stearnes of Phoenix, AZ; brother Bob Stearnes and sister-in-law Nichole of Phoenix, AZ; brother-in-law Doug Eckhart & Jeanne of Albuquerque; sister-in-law Audrey Eckhart & Norm Ott of The Villages, FL; brother-in-law Curt Eckhart & Kris of Albuquerque; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and great friends. He is predeceased by his father, Bill Stearnes and son Arlen Moore. Mr. Stearnes was born on November 20, 1958, in Albuquerque, NM. All throughout his life, the family cabin was Mike’s greatest retreat. Heading up for a “quick trip” to check on something inevitably turned into an all-day excursion and frequently included time trout fishing on the nearby stream and dinner at El Bruno’s restaurant. Mike had many passions – he was a fisherman, nature lover, cyclist, runner, woodworker, and party guy. All of us can remember that Mike could be hard to get along with at times, but behind every frustrated moment was a world of prep to make somebody’s day. Services will be held Friday November 12, 2021, 11am, at Eastern Hills Baptist Church, 3100 Morris St NE. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Albuquerque Wildlife Federation.
