It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Debbie Phillips, who left this world on March 16, 2026, at the age of 73, in her home in Bernalillo, New Mexico. Born on March 8, 1953, in Miami, Florida, Debbie made New Mexico her home for over six decades, proudly becoming a true New Mexican.
Debbie’s life was marked by her dedication to her craft and the warmth she extended to all who knew her. As a talented hairstylist for most of her adult life, she owned and operated her own business for many years, culminating in her proprietorship of Village Salon Studios in Albuquerque. Her entrepreneurial spirit came from a lineage of strong, independent women from whom she drew inspiration. Her impact on colleagues and clients alike was enduring and heartfelt.
Beyond her professional achievements, Debbie was a gifted artist whose paintings adorned her home, reflecting the depth of her creativity and her love for beauty in all forms. Known for her ever-present smile, she was a beacon of kindness and generosity. Debbie was a loving daughter, mother, and sister, whose caring nature touched the lives of many.
She is survived by her beloved son, Deo; her sister, Wendy Chavez, and brother-in-law, George; and her brother, Scott Welsh, along with his daughter, Lindsay, and Lindsay’s family. Though her presence will be deeply missed, those who loved her will carry forward the memories of her warmth and tenacity.
There will be a Memorial Service to honor Debbie’s life at Daniels Family Funeral Services - Sara Chapel, located at 4310 Sara Road in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, on April 13, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. All who were touched by her life are invited to gather and celebrate the remarkable woman she was.
