Demetria Torres

d. May 27, 2025

Demetria Torres, a woman of boundless love, creativity, and devotion, passed away peacefully at the age of 84, surrounded by her husband, children, and loving family. She lost her life due to complications from Type 2 diabetes and dementia, yet the beauty and warmth she brought into this world will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.

Demetria shared 66 wonderful years of marriage with her devoted husband, Jose L. Torres, a bond marked by enduring love, faith, and shared joy. Together, they built a life filled with family, laughter, and treasured traditions — a legacy that will continue for generations.

Demetria lived a life rich with passion and purpose. Whether she was exploring new places through travel, filling her home with the comforting aromas of homemade dishes, or crafting warmth into every stitch of her knitting and crochet, she approached each day with heart and creativity. Her voice, a source of joy and comfort, uplifted all who heard her sing — whether at a family gathering or among her community.

Nature was her sanctuary. Camping under the stars, basking in the serenity of the outdoors, and especially picking pinion were sacred moments where she felt most connected to the world around her. Her joy in these simple pleasures inspired others to slow down and appreciate the beauty in everyday life.

Demetria’s love for her family was deep and unwavering. In addition to her beloved husband, Jose, she is survived by their children: Randall Torres, Dorothy Belcher (Tom), Gene Torres (Rose), Marlene Garret (Jay), and Patrick Torres (Amanda). Her treasured grandchildren: Christopher, Matthew, Randy Jr., Josh, Kyle, Kevin, Ashley, Hannah, Sydney, Ethan, Nick, and Michael, as well as sixteen great-grandchildren who carry forward her light and legacy.

Her siblings —Josie (Angela) Montoya, Selena Medina, Andy Montoya, Agapito (Jerry) Montoya, Patsy Medina, and Donald Montoya — remember her as a pillar of strength and joy and will forever hold close the memories they shared.

Demetria was preceded in death by her parents, Susano and Elviria Montoya, and her siblings Rudy Montoya, Freddy Montoya, Angie Rodriguez, and Viola Melendez. Though they are no longer here, the threads of family love she wove throughout her life continue to bind them all.

Those who knew Demetria will remember her as loving, generous, selfless, spontaneous, and filled with a steadfast love for the Lord Jesus Christ. Her faith guided her, and her life was a living testament to kindness and grace.

As we celebrate the life of Demetria Torres, we reflect on the joy she brought into this world — in the laughter around a dinner table, the hum of her favorite tune, the warmth of a handmade gift, and the peace of a starlit campfire. Her legacy lives on in the stories told, the recipes shared, and the enduring love she cultivated. Demetria was giving in nature always putting her childrens needs first. Demetria ensured that a strong faith in Jesus Christ and good values were instilled in the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to any Diabetes or Dementia organization, in honor of the causes close to Demetria’s heart.

She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
