Dixie Eloise Brack

Dixie Eloise Brack, 79, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 12, 2010 at the Beehive Homes of Farmington. She was born September 7, 1930 to George Vaughn and Ruth Ellen Brouse Vaughn in Grand Junction, Colorado. When she was very young, her parents divorced and her mother married Harry E. Downer, who became her loving dad. She attended schools in Ely, Nevada and graduated from Fruita High School, Fruita, Colorado. In 1948 where she participated in band (clarinet), FHA, Pep Club, International Relations Club and the junior play. Dixie married Ralph Slaugh; they moved to San Juan County in 1951. They later divorced. She then married the love of her life, Dan E. Brack, Jr., in 1961 in Farmington. She worked at Continental Emsco for several years. She was a member of the LDS church. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, knitting, reading, cooking, collecting Hummel figurines, and traveling (especially to Hawaii). One of Dixie's greatest joys was her involvement in the Benevolent Patriotic Order of Does, a wonderful service organization. She joined in 1971, and by 1983 she became the Supreme President. As she traveled throughout the United States. Dixie literaly made thousands of friends, women who still love and admire her. After her presidency, she served as a trustee for three years, then as chairman of the Grand Lodge Judiciary Committee until her resignation in 1998. Dixie is survived by her husband of 49 years, Dan; her sons Del Slaugh (Cathy) of Milliken, Colorado; Michael Brack (Judith)of Edmonds, Washington; daughters Nila Wagner (Stephen) of Bakersfield, California; Patty Moss (Kevin) of Bountiful, Utah; and Vauna Slaugh of Grand Junction, Colorado. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren Scott Slaugh (Diana); Cody Slaugh; Tamra Woolsey (Michael); Jeff Wagner (Tiffiny); Todd Wagner (Jenny); Katie Smith (Dallin) Alex, Nathan and Greg Moss. She also has eight great-grandchildren with one on the way. Dixie adored her grandchildren and showered them with gifts and love. Dixe was preceded in death by her mother, father, and step-sister Vera Rubino. Alzheimrer's robbedour mom of twelve years, but we know she is not at peace and laughing, talking and enjoying a new life. A special thanks goes out to the staff at Beehive Home #2, especially Andrea. Also, many thanks to the best home teacher/Bishop/friend, Carroll Carter. He showed great love and Christian spirit for both Dan and Dixie for eight years, spending time with Dixie at the nursing home, taking her for walks, and bringing treats and love to both. Visitation is Wednesday, June 16 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 East Ute St. A celebration of Dixie's life is Thursday, June 17, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Farmington 7th Ward Chapel, 400 W. Apache St, Apache Building with Bishop Carroll Carter conducting the service. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Farmington. Pallbearers are Scott Slaugh, Greg Moss, Cody Slaugh, Jeff Wagner, Alex Moss, Todd Wagner, Nathan Moss and Dallin Smith.
